What is a Meningitis?

Meningitis is a viral.It's means the cause is infection with a virus. Bacterial meningitis is quite rare but it can be very serious and needs urgent treatment with antibiotics.It is a inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord called the meninges. It is rarely occurs when an infection in the body spreads through the blood and into the cerebrospinal fluid.This fluid that cover the outside of the brain and spinal cord. The infection can spread into the brain tissue and cause brain damage.Meningitis mostly present in kids age 5 and younger, and in between16 to 25 year olds, but people can get meningitis at any stage of life.

There is another type of meningitis ,that's name is Cryptococcal meningitis.Cryptococcal meningitis is a brain infection, which is found mainly in dirt and bird droppings.Cryptococcus fungus present in the human beings for a some time during their lives.

There is one feared illnesses that worry many meningitis parents. Anytime a child complains of a headache and has a fever, it may be meningitis.

What are the symptoms Meningitis ?

Meningitis symptoms are very difficult to recognise at it's early stage.In the early stages of meningitis, signs and symptoms may be similar as compare to many more common illnesses , for example flu etc.

The symptoms of meningitis vary, but often include:

* Headache.
* Fever.
* Stiff neck.
* Sensitivity to light.
* Nausea.
* Vomiting.
* Drowsiness.
* Confusion.
* Little bit tiredness.
* Feeling sick.

Mainly the Symptoms of bacterial meningitis develop suddenly and for viral meningitis may develop suddenly or gradually over a period of days. For example, the symptoms of viral meningitis after mumps may take several days or weeks to develop. meningitis can lead to brain swelling and cause further disability, including coma and even death.

What are the causes of Meningitis ?

Meningitis may be caused by many viruses meningitis and bacteria meningitis. Bacterial meningitis affects the a little bit people in the world than the viral form, but it often results in more serious health consequences. Bacterial meningitis is present in 1 in 10 cases and leaves 1 in 7 survivors with a severe disability caused by brain injury. The main causes of Meningitis named streptococcus pneumoniae. Million cases of ear infection reported each year.

There are also non infectious causes of meningitis that includes systemic diseases like:

  • SLE.
  • Sarcoidosis.
  • Polyarteritis nodosa.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Toxins.
  • Certain medications and
  • Malignancies.

Meningitis caused by non infectious agents are called sterile meningitis .It is called sterile meningitis because of nomicro organism is isolated in the spinal fluid.Bacteria, viruses and fungi all can cause meningitis. Identifying the source of the infection is an important part of developing a treatment plan.

What are the Treatments of Meningitis ?

The following medicines may be taken in meningitis:

Vata Chintamani; KasturiBhairava, and Krishna Bhairava - 120 mg of Vata Chintamani, 120 mg of kasturi Bhairava & also 120 gm of krishana
Chaturmukha ,make the mixture of these things and you may take three times in a day.

Siddha Makaradhwaja; Sauhhagya VatL - 120 mg of Siddha Makaradhwaja and 240 mg of Sauhhagya Vati may be taken two times in a day with juice of fresh ginger.

Meningitis is also treated with anti-fungal drugs. Some physicians use fluconazole. Itraconazole is sometimes used for people who cannot take fluconazole.

What are the Home remedies of Meningitis?

Mainly home remedies for the treatment of meningitis areLemonade, orange juice and other acidic drinks increase saliva flow.You may also take1 cup of Soya bean milk mixed with 1 tspn of honey taken every night for three or four mounths.
