TrachomaCausesTrachoma is a chronic, contagious eye disease a severe form of conjunctivitis caused by virus like organism called Chlamydia Trachomatis and is quite common in tropical regions. SymptomsIf acute conjunctivitis is not controlled and treated in time, it may turn out in the form of Trachoma. In trachoma conjunctiva of the eyelids becomes inflammed, leading to pus discharge which, if untreated, the coruunctive becomes scarred and shrinks, causing inward turning of the eye lids, as a result of which the eyelashes scratch the cornea (Trichiasis). In this condition, blindness generally follows. Hence most of the cases of blindness are attributed to untreated Trachoma which has, perhaps, the largest number of patients around the world more so in the developing and underdeveloped regions or countries.
